Waiting for my kids to arrive from after school care I listen to the parrots chatting and playing in a tree...the radio plays on in the background 774AM. It's a warm hazy day in Winter.

News with distortion from the tram lines. This sound fascinates me. It is like I can hear the 'sound' of electricty. The presence of electricity is inescapable; wherever I seem to look I am aware of power lines and transmission towers crossing the landscape and the cloudy-blue sky.

The news is about the riots in London & an interview sets a chilling tone of social unease and desperation. It seems such a contrast to my gentle soft cloudscape - i just want to escape to that cushioning pillow of whiteness - I worry about my family and close friend in London with all the violent news overloading my radio waves - but then I retreat into the world of sunlight and clouds, blue sky and bird song.

This interview appealed to me - what an amazing visually diverse and perverse image this audio information conjures up for me - 1000's of rubber ducks floating throughout the world's oceans...I considered having a duck onstage regardless of the visual connection to my performance, purely as a connection to the idea of those ducks landing anywhere & everywhere...
